Alliance Medical Lung Cancer Screening (LCS)

LCS is a cornerstone of Alliance Medical’s commitment to early cancer detection. Bringing diagnostics closer to patients isn’t just about greater access, but greater impact.

Since launching the pilot in Doncaster in 2021, we’ve expanded to nine contracts delivering effective, accessible LCS across the UK. Alliance Medical have a proven track record in delivering high-quality diagnostics for LCS through our flexible mobile and community-focused solutions that ensure fast setup and maximum reach.

Advocates for early detection

Our partnerships with Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS Trusts and retail giants like Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Lidl, bring host sites into the heart of the community. To date, we’ve invited over 115,000 eligible participants, delivered 87,000 LCSs and diagnosed 1,000 early-stage cancers - 80% of which were at stage 1 or 2. This earlier detection ultimately provides better treatment options to our patients and enhances survival rates.

A quick and efficient service – I was seen on the same day as I was contacted. Everyone I dealt with was extremely pleasant.
Private Patient, Cardiac MRI, Wythenshawe
I was sent to the Harley Street clinic for an open MRI because of my phobia of confined spaces.

The Radiographer was very reassuring, and I was kept informed throughout the whole process.

I was there for almost 2 hours and felt comfortable and safe. Thank you and God bless to the Harley Street Team.
Private patient, MRI, London Harley Street
I am really happy with the service provided. I was looked after very well and felt really comfortable throughout the process.

The staff were helpful, friendly and professional. I was not rushed and given time to prepare/collect my things.

The scan itself was pleasant. I could listen to music and relax. I am really pleased I was referred to this centre and highly recommend to others.

The path to better lung health starts here

For patients aged 55 to 74 that have ever smoked, a free NHS TLHC is designed to detect early signs of lung cancer and other lung conditions. Here's a closer look at the patient pathway:

1. Invitation

If you're eligible, you'll receive a letter or phone call inviting you to take part from your GP or local NHS provider.

2. Telephone Assessment

The first step is a telephone assessment with a specialist nurse or healthcare professional to assess your smoking history, breathing, general health, and any lung-related symptoms. If you're at higher risk of developing lung disease, you'll be invited for a face-to-face lung health check.

3. Lung Health Check

If you're at higher risk of developing lung disease, you'll be invited for a face-to-face lung health check.

4. Low Dose CT Scan

If necessary, you may be offered a low-dose CT (LDCT) scan, a painless and quick scan that takes a detailed image of your lungs. This scan can help detect lung cancer at an early stage, often before symptoms appear.

5. Results

A specialist team will review your results and if no concerns are found, you’ll be reassured and may be invited for a future lung health check. If anything unusual is detected, you may be referred for further tests or specialist care. In some cases, small lung nodules (tiny spots in the lungs) may require follow-up scans over a period to monitor any changes.

6. Support

If you're a smoker, this is also an opportunity to receive free NHS smoking cessation support to help you quit for good. If you receive an invitation, we encourage you to book your free check as soon as possible - it could save your life.
