Alliance Medical has completed an upgrade to its relocatable MRI scanner at Turner Diagnostic Centre in Colchester, introducing advanced Deep Resolve AI technology to support faster, clearer imaging.

The upgrade, which is now live, enhances the way MRI images are reconstructed, helping to improve image quality while reducing scan times across a wide range of clinical pathways.

This latest investment is part of a wider programme of ongoing development at the site, focused on improving patient experience, optimising operational efficiency, and supporting local healthcare services.

Supporting faster, more efficient scanning

The introduction of Deep Resolve technology is expected to deliver several key benefits, including:

  • Improved image quality to support more confident clinical reporting
  • Shorter scan times, helping to enhance patient comfort
  • More efficient delivery across pathways including musculoskeletal, neurological and oncology imaging

The upgrade is expected to support more efficient scanning, with the potential to increase daily capacity by 10–15%, helping to support waiting list pressures

Enhancing patient and staff experience

Sarah Warner, Unit Manager at Turner Diagnostic Centre, said:

“This upgrade allows us to deliver faster scans while maintaining excellent image quality, which makes a real difference for both patients and our team. Spending less time in the scanner can significantly improve the experience for patients, particularly those who may find it difficult to remain still. At the same time, the improvements in efficiency help us make the best possible use of our capacity.”

Clinical teams at the centre have completed specialist training to support the implementation of the new technology, ensuring a smooth transition and consistent delivery across services.

Part of a wider investment programme

The upgrade marks the first step in a broader programme of investment at Turner Diagnostic Centre, with further enhancements to imaging services planned over the coming months.

Stuart Emerson, Regional Director (East) at Alliance Medical, said:

“This is part of a wider multi million pound program of investment at Turner Diagnostic Centre. By enhancing our existing infrastructure, and working in partnership with our NHS partners we are providing additional capacity within the system to meet the local healthcare system demand and allow referrers and patients timely access to diagnostic information. We look forward to sharing further updates as this develops.”

Alliance Medical will continue to share progress as additional upgrades are delivered and the centre’s imaging capabilities expand.
