Detecting lung disease early with 3D imaging and expert reporting

Lung disease kills over 120,000 people each year in the UK and around a third of these die of lung cancer. Early detection is vital and proven to significantly increase the chance of cure.

With modern life becoming increasingly hectic, we may barely register that persistent cough or wheeze. However, it's important to pay attention to even the most mild of symptoms as these could be the first signs of lung disease; including COPD, asthma and lung cancer. Knowledge of the symptoms of lung disease could help you receive treatment before the disease becomes serious or even life threatening.

Fast, accurate and painless CT scanning

At Alliance Medical, our superior technology coupled with expert reporting radiologists makes early diagnosis and effective treatment possible.

Our Aquilion ONE PRISM Edition CT scanner can image the whole chest in 3D, enabling even the smallest airways to be seen with precise clarity in a way that is impossible with traditional x-rays.

Aquilion ONE is capable of detecting the very earliest signs of smoking related damage, cancer or pneumonia. Tumors as small as 2mm can be visualised, dramatically improving the likelihood of survival after treatment.

Several clinical trials have confirmed that CT scanning is the most effective means of screening for lung cancer, particularly in high-risk individuals, and it is now recommended as such by experts in the UK.

Who is suitable for a lung scan?

You may wish to consider a chest scan if you are a female over 40, male over 35 and if any of the following apply:

  • you are a heavy smoker or live with a heavy smoker
  • you have previously been exposed to asbestos
  • shortness of breath
  • a persistent cough
  • coughing up blood
  • pain or discomfort when breathing in or out.
