Laing Buisson Healthcare Awards 2016

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Alliance Medical enjoyed yet another successful night on Tuesday 29th November as we were awarded the ‘Public-Private Partnership’ award at the Laing and Buisson Healthcare Awards 2016. This was the second year running that we have won this prestigious title.

Our winning submission focused on two key areas; our work to develop research activity through our PET-CT network and our development of NHS-led Community Outpatient Diagnostic Centres.

Our PET-CT network has supported the creation of the AML Research Committee focused on implementing an improved pathway for trialling new imaging agents and technologies to broaden the evidence-based application of PET-CT to other diseases. We are involved with multiple approved research trials with further applications pending approval. Trial topics include various aspects of dementia, lymphoma, endometrial, lung and liver cancers. Alongside NHS England, AML has also initiated what will possibly be the largest study on early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease through a multi-centre 12 month study to explore the impact and utility of amyloid PET brain imaging on the management of patients being evaluated for Alzheimer’s disease. AML will provide 2,000 examinations, inclusive of radiotracers, for this programme.

2016 has seen AML agree the development of its first NHS-led Community Outpatients Diagnostic Centre in partnership with Colchester NHS Foundation Trust. The purpose built centre will include two MRI scanners (with room for further expansion) and one PET-CT scanner. This new model will provide a purpose-built facility, tailored around local diagnostic needs, offering immediate access with the flexibility to upscale quickly for future demand. It will be delivered in partnership with the Trust (and will host the Trust Nuclear Medicine department) and will be fully integrated across primary and secondary care, enabling diagnostic pathways to work in harmony with existing hospital services. The community-based model includes joint governance between the Trust and AML with the hospital diagnostic unit retaining their lead role, supported by a purpose-built outpatient facility.

The Laing and Buisson Awards aim to showcase and reward organisations and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the healthcare sector. The awards ceremony, hosted by Gyles Brandreth, was held at the Park Plaza Westminster Hotel in London and was attended by over 800 of the health sector’s key figures.
