Information for patientsAlliance Medical is working on behalf of the NHS to provide you with local access to PET/CT, allowing Clinicians to make positive differences to your management by providing unique and complimentary diagnostic information. You have increased confidence in their diagnosis and treatment, knowing that your Clinician has access to state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and a local service reduces the need for you to travel long distances. When your Clinician requests a PET/CT scan, our dedicated bookings team will organise your appointment and ensure you receive all the information needed to prepare for your scan. On the day of your scan, our professional and friendly staff will make you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your scanning experience. For further information, download the Patient Guide. What is PET/CT? PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography. It is an imaging technique that uses small quantities of a radioactive tracer called 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (similar to sugar), to produce images showing how your body is functioning. CT (Computed Tomography) utilises X-rays to produce pictures showing the density of different organs in the body. By combining these two techniques in one scanner, we are able to provide important information to help your doctor appropriately manage your needs. This relatively simple procedure should take between 2-3 hours, however it is very important to arrive on time for your appointment. For the procedure you will be given an injection which has a very short shelf life, and if you are late we will not be able to proceed with your scan. |
