CT and PET scanners
Dedicated PET systems have now advanced to the point where they can include fusion with Computerised Tomography to produce images that illustrate active pathology and anatomical location in astonishing clarity. This fusion of images can occur either by stand-alone CT and PET scanners that are networked together and the images then fused on a remote workstation or a dedicated PET/CT scanner. This is a new concept where a PET Scanner and a CT Scanner are joined to form one machine where the images are acquired at the same examination and fused automatically. Images show Cervical Cancer. Findings from the case included large areas of intense FDG uptake surrounding the bowel consistent with recurrence. |
