This course is a programme designed for Radiographers & Technologists who wish to consolidate their understanding of the physical principles and broaden their clinical knowledge. A basic understanding of the core physical principles & safety is required, as covered in the Introductory MRI course. This course will cover the remaining physics in detail and leave attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the principles relevant to clinical practice. Review sessions are set aside to enable discussion and clarification of any points.

The clinical components will be broader than those in the Introductory MRI course with greater depth to them. There will be opportunities to discuss and reflect on current practice with the lecturers.

Intake
The course number will be limited to approximately 25 attendees. This will allow interaction with the lecturers, achieving the most from the three days.

Lectures
The course is designed to use a variety of teaching techniques and speakers. A Clinical Physics Team who has taught on the courses since 1994 teaches core physical principles. Their extensive experience enables them to clearly explain the principles and help develop your understanding of the complex elements of the physics.
Clinical experts deliver interactive sessions considering MRI techniques and approaches to imaging and pathological appearances on MR Images. These clinical experts are a combination of Radiologists and Radiographers who remain current in clinical practice.
Subjects covered in the introductory course are built on and covered in greater depth with specialists in the appropriate area. These lectures remain fully interactive and allow for open discussion of techniques and imaging strategies.

Proposed Lecture Programme
Day 1

  • Joint imaging
  • Imaging of the Spine
  • Neuro Review and Discussion
  • MRI of the Abdomen
  • MRI in Oncology

Day 2

  • MRI Technique of the Abdomen
  • MRI Angiography
  • Review of Core Physics
  • Image Formation Part 1
  • Image Formation Part 2
  • MRI of the Pelvis

Day 3

  • Contrast Agents in MRI
  • Pulse Sequences Part 1
  • Pulse sequences Part 2
  • Artefacts and Compensation
  • Neuro MRI

Actual agendas may vary due to availability of speakers

Course Content
This course builds on the basic understanding of MRI physics and clinical uses covered in the Introductory MRI course.

Clinical Lectures are delivered by both radiologists or experienced MRI practitioners with extensive lecturing and application experience covering clinical indications, pathology recognition, discussion of pulse sequence selection and technical guidance.
Image Formation covers the principles behind spatial localisation in MRI. Slice selection, Phase Encoding and frequency encoding are covered in this section. K Space is demystified by applying the theory of this model to clinical imaging. K Space will at last make sense.
Pulse Sequences is increased to cover Spine Echo, Fast Spin Echo, Inversion Recovery, Gradient Echo / FLASH and Fast Gradient Echo / Turbo FLASH.
Artefacts and Compensatory Techniques looks at all MRI artefacts, the methods of compensation and the principles behind these techniques.
Contrast Agents in MRI is delivered by a product specialist and covers topics related to both gadolinium contrasts and liver agents.

Recent feedback from delegates who have attended this course:

  • "Excellent, good content and very relevant to the imaging that I do"
  • "Alliance Medical remains a major source of my MRI knowledge"
